The job market is back in full swing at the moment, with positions opening up across every conceivable industry and about 60 to 100 people applying for each post. Understandably, this means that if you want a chance at success and a shot at the job, you have to know how to impact the interview.

Your typical job interview will provide you with an opportunity to demonstrate exactly why you are the best candidate for the role. However, you don’t have long to do it, so you need to ensure that you are equipped to capitalise on your time.

Let’s take a quick peek at three things that you can do to impact your interview for the better.

Know Your Prospective Employers

One of the first and most important things that you can do to impact an interview is to know your prospective employers. When we consider employers for this particular scenario, we must understand that there are two primary things to keep in mind.

  • What is essential to your employer and the company?

  • What is vital to the target audience of your employer and the company?

It’s not just a case of appealing to your employer with regards to the values of the company. Instead, you need to make sure that you are resonating with the target audience of the company because this will help to demonstrate that you are aligned with the end goal of the business, which is keeping its customers happy.

Building Meaningful Messages

When you have identified both elements of the people you will have to focus on, it’s time to start building meaningful messages. If you want to make an impact, then you need to be creating responses and demonstrating your most desirable characteristics and skills.

This means creating about three messages which you believe resonate most with the values and needs of the employer and the target audience.

You use these messages to portray yourself in the best possible light, demonstrating that you understand the mission statement of the company but also that you will be able to facilitate the needs of the target audience at the same time.

Passion, People and Purpose

Making an impact at an interview requires focusing on three core characteristics which we like to call the three “P’s”.

We are referring to having a passion for the role, which translates to being able to demonstrate that you are committed to the mission statement of the company and giving customers the best results. We’re also talking about focusing on the people involved in the process, which means connecting with your employers meaningfully and demonstrating awareness of the target audience.

Finally, we are talking about purpose, which focuses on your specific purpose as a prospective hire. It would be best if you had a goal in mind, like, for example, forging a career within the business.

So, these are just three of the ways that you can make an impact during an interview. It’s essential to go in with a winning mindset and to focus on really building a relationship between yourself and your prospective employer. Remember, first impressions last, so you need to make sure that you are behaving in such a way from the outset that generates a better likelihood of you being successful.
